Hi! My name is Erin and I am 30 years old. I was raised in the U.S. but have been living in England since 2003. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we had our gorgeous son in August 2015.
I have eaten a Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) for most of my life. At approximately 12 years old I found a large blood vessel in a piece of chicken that I was eating at a KFC and it clicked for me then that what I was consuming had once been a living, breathing being. This intuitively felt wrong to me.
I tried vegetarianism for about a week but quickly slid back into omnivorism. Being young it was just easy to eat what was prepared for me by my family and to continue doing what was so socially ingrained in me to do. I didn’t allow myself to think about it too much, however, I knew deep down that I could never kill an animal myself and yet I was allowing others to do it for me. The hypocrisy of that was always at the back of my mind.
For most of my life, I have struggled with various health problems, including digestive and menstrual issues. I had a lot of doctor visits, hospital visits, and tests but never a real diagnosis.
In February 2012 I reached a particularly low point where even getting out of bed seemed a struggle and a constant brain fog made it difficult to think straight. I was taking a few sick days off of work when I read the book ‘Skinny B*tch’. This straight-talking book was exactly what I needed at that point in my life to push me over the edge into trying veganism. The descriptions of animal cruelty made me cry, I related to the health issues that consuming meat and dairy can cause, and the promised health benefits of a vegan diet gave me hope.
MAKING THE SWITCH
I was nervous to tell my family that I would be trying a vegan diet but they were very supportive and not long after making the switch I started to feel better than I ever had before. My lifelong ailments began to cure themselves. I learned more about cooking, baking, and nutrition. I was enjoying a wider range of food. I was also learning more about the cruelty behind animal agriculture and the heavy environmental impact that it causes. I know I can never go back and going vegan has been one of the best decisions I ever made. My only regret is not having done it sooner!
I am passionate about veganism, food, and nutrition. I believe that a minimally processed vegan diet is very beneficial for your health and the planet and the only possible future is a vegan one.
This website was created to share what I have learned in the hopes of inspiring more people to have fewer meals containing animal products. Every little bit counts and that makes it all worth it to me.
